IFDIA Professional Code of Ethics

 

   

Professional Inspectors are governed by rules of Ethics in the daily operations as a Swinging Type Fire Door Inspector.

As a member of the International Fire Door Inspector Association, I agree to adhere to the rules as set forth as follows:

The International Fire Door Inspector Association (IFDIA) 
promotes a high standard of professionalism, business ethics and 
inspection procedures. IFDIA members subscribe to the following 
Code of Ethics in the course of their business.

 

 

 1)    Duty to the Public

 

 

 

a)      The IFDIA member shall abide by this Code of Ethics and substantially follow the IFDIA Standards of Practice.

 

 

 

b)      The IFDIA member shall not engage in any practices that could be damaging to the public or bring discredit to the fire door inspection industry.

 

 

 

c)      The IFDIA member shall be fair, honest, impartial and act in good faith in dealing with the public and code officials.

 

 

 

d)      The IFDIA member shall not discriminate in any business activities on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, sexual orientation, or persons with disabilities and shall comply with all federal, state and local laws concerning discrimination.

 

 

 

e)      The IFDIA member shall be truthful regarding his/her services and qualifications.

 

 

 

f)        The IFDIA member shall have no undisclosed conflict of interest with the client.

 

 

 

g)      The IFDIA member shall not communicate any information about an inspection to anyone except the client and code official (AHJ), without prior written permission of the client, except where it may affect the safety of others or violates a law or statute.

 

 

 

h)      The IFDIA member shall always act in the interest of the client, unless doing so violates a law, statute or this Professional Code of Ethics.

 

 

 

i)        The IFDIA member shall use a written contract that specifies the services to be performed, limitations of said services and expected fees.

 

 

 

j)        The IFDIA member shall comply with all government rules and licensing requirements of the jurisdiction where he/she conducts business.

 

 

 

k)      The IFDIA member should not perform or offer to perform, for an additional fee, any repairs or associated services to doors or frames on which the member or member’s company has prepared an inspection report for a period of 12 months.

 

Exception 1: This provision shall not include services to components and systems which are not included in the inspection report scope.

 

 Exception 2: If agreed upon between the fire door inspector and the customer, repairs or associated services to doors or frames on which the member or member’s company has prepared an inspection report may be performed.

 

 

 

        
 

 2)    Duty to Continue Education 

 

 

 

a)      The IFDIA member shall comply with IFDIA’s current Continuing Education Requirements and agrees to view and read any email letters containing updates on Codes and Standards.

 


 

b)      The IFDIA member shall re-enroll and pass the Swinging Type Fire Door Inspector Class every three (3) years.

 

 

3)    Duty to the Profession and IFDIA 

 

 

a)      The IFDIA member shall strive to improve the Fire Door Inspection Industry by sharing his/her lessons and/or experiences for the benefit of all. This does not preclude the member from copyrighting or marketing his/her expertise to other inspectors or the public in any manner permitted by law.

 

 

 

b)      The IFDIA member shall assist in disseminating and publicizing the benefits of, and importance of, Fire Door Inspections.

 

 

c)      The IFDIA member shall not engage in any act or practice that could be deemed damaging, seditious or destructive to the IFDIA, fellow IFDIA members, IFDIA employees, leadership or directors. Member (s) accused of acting or deemed in violation of such rules shall be reviewed by the Ethics committee for possible sanctions and/or expulsion from IFDIA.

 

 

 

d)      The IFDIA member shall abide by the IFDIA’s current membership requirements.

 

 

e)      The IFDIA member shall abide by IFDIA’s current message board and forum rules.

 

 

f)        The IFDIA member shall abide by the Terms of Use inclusive on the IFDIA website.

 

 

 

g)    The IFDIA member should report as a courtesy any gross violations on a door assembly even if the door assembly is not part of the contracted inspection
